A year at our school
ANZAC DAY
Friday 25th April 2025
Our school leaders proudly represented Willoughby Public School during this years Anzac Day commemoration at the Garden of Remembrance in Chatswood.
The event began with a solemn march from Albert Avenue and Victor Street, leading to the Garden of Remembrance, where the dawn Service took place.
We extend our heartfelt gratitude to our students and community members for their attendance: our presence added depth ad significance to these moments of reflection. Together, we honor the sacrifices made by those who served.
Lest we forget.
School Museum Excursion
Tuesday 27th May 2025
Stage 1 students went to the Schoolhouse Museum recently as part of our history studies this term. They had a wonderful time learning about what school was like in the past.
We received a letter from Molly Mathers who was a student long ago. This is Isla’s response back to Molly.
Dear Molly, we went to the schoolhouse museum and saw the gas lamps and the marbles and the key. I liked the first room best with the ink pens and pots. I got up to the letter L on the handwriting sheet. It was so fun! I didn’t like how the cane sounds when it’s wacked on the table. Then we went to the 1910 classroom It was so cool. We got to touch the jelly pad and got to look around at all the old things. I didn’t want to toast the bread in the fire because I don’t like toast anyway. I found all the things in the treasure hunt. Lastly, we went to the craft room and pulled some strings out of fabric, and we learnt a handshake called granny in the kitchen. I would love to go there if I could. Thanks for letting us visit. I had the best time ever!
Chinese Dragon Boat Festival
Monday 2nd June 2025
June 1st was the traditional Chinese Dragon Boat Festival. Our little native speakers were full of excitement as they folded paper dragon boats and zongzi (traditional Chinese rice dumplings). The classrooms were filled with laughter and joy as they learned about Chinese culture through hands-on fun.
100 Days of Kindy
Thursday 24th July 2025
Our teachers and students had a fantastic time dressing up and showcasing their creative outfits during the parade. It was lovely to see all the costumes, particularly the ones with interesting eyebrows and accessories on display.
As part of the celebration, the children participated in a writing activity where they shared their aspirations for the future, expressing what they want to be when they grow up. They also enjoyed a craft session where they created inspiring artworks using 100 items, and a fun sport activity, where the children collected 100 moves.
Grandparents and Grand friends Day
Thursday 21st August 2025
Book Week was a joyful celebration of literature and creativity. Our students embraced the spirit of reading with an imaginative Book Parade, showcasing their favourite characters with colourful costumes and enthusiasm. The Book Fair was a hive of activity, offering a wonderful selection of books that inspired young readers and supported our school library.
Year 5 - Dance Sport
On Wednesday 26th August, our 48 DanceSport gala team students dazzled on the dancefloor at the Metropolitan North DanceSport Gala at the Quay Centre, Sydney Olympic Park. This gala was a celebration of 15 weeks of lessons learning how to Cha Cha, Tango, Salsa and Jive. As well as becoming phenomenal dancers, our Year 5 gala team learnt the value of respectful communication, team work and resilience. They were an absolute credit to Willoughby Public School and we are so proud of every student.
"We love our school for its supportive community and commitment to every student’s success. Our child feels safe and inspired every day.” — a parent of Willoughby Public School
