English as an Additional Language or Dialect (EAL/D)

Did you know that Willoughby Public School has  almost 50% of its students  from a language background other than English? At last count, there were over 45 different languages represented.

Some of these students may need additional assistance to thrive in an English-speaking learning environment. Those students may received support by our EAL/D teachers, Mrs Andrews and Mrs Murphy.

Our EALD program provides tailored support to help students develop their English language skills in speaking, listening, reading and writing. EALD students are supported in a small group setting, in one-on-one sessions or in their mainstream classroom with specialist EALD teachers. Our goal is to ensure all students have equal access to the curriculum and can fully participate in school life.
